School History
1927 - Berwick needed a High School so the two-story building was built at a cost of $75,000. It was dedicated on February 6, 1927
1937 - The school was in need of a Gymnasium so one was built.It took a year and a half to build the gym at a cost of $25,000. It was dedicated on April 10, 1937
1949 - A permanent stage was built at a cost of $20,886
1951 - The cafeteria was built using lumber from an old African American School in the area.
1955 - Twenty-four (24) Classrooms were added for 1st through 8th grade. The high school had 7 classes, a library, library workshop, bookkeeping, typing, science, and home economics departments. The gym was replaced with a modern gym with a capacity of 700. It also had a band room , stage and workroom.
1959 - The students in 9th grade were allowed to remain at Berwick High instead of going to Morgan City High School. This group of students became Berwick’s first graduating Senior Class.
1975 - A new high school was built in Berwick and the old high school became an elementary school. It remains so to this day.
